According to the Globe and Mail,
Dele Giwa, a leading Nigerian journalist was killed on 19 October
1986 when a parcel-bomb delivered to his home exploded (20 Oct.
1986). The same source states that Dele Giwa was the
editor-in-chief of Newswatch, "a hard-hitting investigative
magazine" (ibid.). This information is corroborated by the 29
December 1986 issue of the New York Times. The sources state
that two days before his death, Dele Giwa was summoned to the
headquarters of the State Security Service (SSS). His colleagues
noted that at the SSS he was accused, among other things, of
plotting a socialist revolution in Nigeria. For additional
information on the life of Dele Giwa as well as the possible
reasons for his death, please refer to the New York Times
attachment.
