Information on the location of a town in
Somalia called Ifo could not be found among the sources consulted
by the DIRB. However, for the location of a Kenyan refugee camp
called Ifo, please see map on page 3 of the attached May 1994
UNHCR Information Bulletin.
Specific information on the current and
past UNHCR practices concerning the relocation of Somali refugees
from Utange to Ifo and on the route followed by Somali refugees
being relocated from Utange to Ifo could not be found among the
sources consulted by the DIRB. However, for general information on
the UNHCR repatriation of Somalis from Kenya, please refer to the
attached documents.
Please note that on 10 April 1995, the
UNHCR shut down the Utange camp, the largest refugee camp in Kenya,
following a four month repatriation program of Somali refugees
(Reuters 10 Apr. 1995).
This Response was prepared after
researching publicly accessible information currently available to
the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does
not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular
claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of
