The names of the Awami League candidates for the October 2001 elections for Narshingdi; the votes obtained; and the names of the winners [BGD40927.E]

The following people were named as Awami League (AL) candidates in the Narshingdi 2001 October elections: Mohammad Ali ran in constituency 1 (Bangladesh Election Commission n.d.a;); Md. Nurul Islam ran in constituency 2 (ibid. n.d.b.); Mahabubur Rahman Bhuyan ran in constituency 3 (ibid. n.d.c.); Lieutenant General Mohammad Noor Uddin Khan ran in constituency 4 (ibid. n.d.d.); and Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju ran in constituency 5 (ibid. n.d.e.).

An undated document published by the Bangladesh Election Commission entitled "List of Winners With Nearest Competitors: Bangladesh Awami League" identified Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju as the winner of the October 2001 elections in Narshingdi constituency 5 (ibid. n.d.f.). He had obtained a total of 117,096 votes (ibid.).

According to a Bangladesh Election Commission document listing the names of the unsuccessful AL candidates, Mohammad Ali received 84,889 votes, Md. Nurul Islam received 46,342 votes, Mahabubur Rahman Bhuyan received 44,961 votes, and Lieutenant General Mohammad Noor Uddin Khan received 92,564 votes (ibid. n.d.g.).
