Follow up to TCD30497.E and TCD30540.E on whether there are areas in N'Djamena called "Gendarmerie" and "Bol" [TCD30771.E]

According to information received by fax from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Resident Representative in N'Djamena, neither Gendarmerie nor Bol are formal designations (2 Dec. 1998). However, the representative's letter states that in common speech in N'Djamena this is a popular way of referring to the quarter within which the Gendarmerie camp is situated. The proper name for this quarter is "Béguinage". The representative's fax confirms that there is no quarter in N'Djamena referred to as "Bol", rather that there exists a quarter named "Bololo" near "Béguinage".

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
