IRB – Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (Autor)
According to a representative of the
Embassy of Jordan in Washington, a person cannot be exempted from
military service, but he can postpone it (24 Oct. 1991). This
source further reported that a person cannot renew his military
booklet in a Jordanian Embassy abroad (Ibid.). This
information is corroborated by a Jordanian lawyer in New York who
added that the person has to provide documents proving that he is
eligible to postpone military service (24 oct. 1991). For example,
a student must procure an official document from the University
where he is studying and present it to the military recruitment
office in Jordan (Ibid.). The source also reported that at
the present time there are so many refugees coming to Jordan that
the army has introduced a deferment of military service
(Ibid.). The army recruiting authorities are stamping the
military booklet and asking the person to come back at a later time
(Ibid.).
Further information is currently
unavailable to the IRBDC in Ottawa.
