t least eight militants have been reported killed in separate drone strikes in Pakistan's tribal area.
Pakistani security officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed drones fired missiles early on January 8 at a militants' compound in the village of Haider Khel in North Waziristan, killing five militants and wounding four others.
Less than one hour later, drones fired missiles at a militant hideout in the village of Hasookhel, not far from Haider Khel. Three militants were said to have been killed in that attack.
The area is a suspected haven for Taliban and Al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorists.
Pakistani officials said they did not know the identities of those killed.
China's Xinhua news agency cited local media reports saying that "an important Taliban leader is believed to be living inside the house" targeted in Haider Khel.
