Former Interior Minister Of Pakistan Survives Suicide Bombing

April 30, 2015

A Pakistani police officer was killed and two others wounded on April 30 when a suicide bomber attacked the convoy of a senior politician in the restive northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Authorities say Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, the head of the Qaumi Watan Party and former interior minister of Pakistan, was the target of the attack.

Pakistani media report that Sherpao was not injured.

The bomber ran towards Sherpao’s vehicle as it was passing through the province’s western district of Charsadda.

Police say the attacker first began shooting a gun at Sherpao’s vehicle, then detonated his explosives when police began shooting back at him.

Sherpao told journalists later that it was the fourth time he has survived an attempted assassination.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
