Car Bombs Kill More Than A Dozen In Baghdad

 January 12, 2014
Iraqi officials say two car bombs have exploded in Baghdad, killing at least 13 people and wounding several dozen more.

The deadlier of the blasts struck at a Baghdad bus terminal, killing nine people.

The other car bomb targeted a gathering of buses and taxis in Baghdad's northern Hurriyah neighborhood, killing at least four civilians and wounding 12.

Police say 16 people were wounded in the attack on the Allawi al-Hillah bus terminal.

Security and medical officials told AFP that bombing occurred near a taxi and bus station where men who had submitted applications to join the army were preparing to return to their homes.

Another attack targeted army recruits in the capital on January 9, when a suicide bomber detonated an explosives belt, killing 23 people.

Militants opposed to the Iraqi government frequently target security forces with bombings and shootings.
