Suspected U.S. Drone Attack In Pakistan Kills At Least Three Militants

Pakistani officials say a suspected U.S. drone strike has killed at least three militants in the country's lawless tribal areas.

The strike occurred September 29 near Miranshah, the main town in North Waziristan, one of seven tribal agencies along the Afghan border.

Pakistani security officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the U.S. drone fired two missiles on a militant compound.

North Waziristan is a stronghold of the Pakistani Taliban and militants linked to Al-Qaeda. The drone strike comes just days after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif called for an end to such strikes in a speech at the UN General Assembly in New York.

Pakistan has repeatedly protested against drone strikes as a violation of its sovereignty. The United States, however, sees them as a vital tool in the fight against militants.
