Information on which clans that have occupied Borama since the Somali National Movement (SNM) attack in 1991, and whether there have been any repatriations to the area and by which subclans [SOM25337.E]

Current information on the above-mentioned subject could not be found among the sources currently available to the DIRB. For general information on the Gadabursi and their homeland areas, please consult Responses to Information Requests SOM17272.E of 12 May 1994 and SOM16761 of 16 March 1994.

According to Supplement to Information Session on Country Conditions on Somalia, the Gadabursi, with the support of the late Siad Barre government, were "so heavily armed" that they started to encroach on the Issa's grazing land (DIRB 15 Feb. 1996, 52). The latter sought the protection of the Somali National Movement (SNM) (ibid.). This source states that the SMN had little resistance from the Gadabursi because they reached "an accommodation" (ibid., 53).

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
