Information on the Central American University and student demonstrations in June 1991 that may have resulted in the death of some students [SLV12669]

Please find attached a copy of the entry for the Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas (José Simeón Cañas Central American University), commonly known as the Universidad Centroamericana, Central American University or UCA, published in The World of Learning 1991. Various sources report that the Central American University conducts polls and studies on social, economic and political issues, and holds forums, talks, debates and conferences on a variety of subjects. The DIRB currently holds in its collection samples of the Central American University's Estudios Centro Americanos and Proceso, two of the publications listed in The World of Learning 1991. As an example of the variety of references to the Central American University available, please find attached a copy of a page from El Salvador Chronology. This document contains a reference to the role of UCA in the investigation and prosecution related to the widely reported murder of six Jesuit priests who were also members of the university, as well as a reference to a donation of books and money by the government of Spain for UCA's Department of Communications.

Information on a demonstration by students of UCA or a demonstration that resulted in the death of students in June 1991 could not be found among the sources currently available to the DIRB.
