There were riots in Khartoum in early 1982 (Legum B93). However the source does not specify whether these were organized by the Sudanese National Party. These riots erupted in response to International Monetary Fund (IMF)-inspired increases in the price of bread and sugar (Scott H. Jacobs May 1985).

According to Le Devoir, there were demonstrations in Khartoum in November 1988 which spread to other parts of the Sudan. The demonstrations were launched by university students in protest of the rising costs of food and other essential commodities. Industrial work was reportedly threatened to come to a standstill as many union workers staged strikes in support of the demonstrations (Ottawa Citizen).
