Information on the right to Sudanese nationality by a Somalian citizen born of a Sudanese father [SDN9702]

The information contained in this response was provided by a representative of the Embassy of the Republic of Sudan in Ottawa during a telephone conversation with the IRBDC (6 Nov. 1991). The official explained that a person born of a Sudanese father is entitled to Sudanese nationality. He stated however, that the person would have to prove that his father is a citizen of Sudan. The representative stated that Sudan does not recognize dual nationality and if a person holds another nationality, he or she would have to renounce it before they can be granted Sudanese nationality. Further information on this subject is currently unavailable to the IRBDC in Ottawa.
