Information on the requirements and procedures to become a member of the MQM and, once a member, on the procedures to cease being a member [PAK28758.E]

Information on the requirements and procedures to become a member of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) (formerly the Mohajir Quami Movement–Altaf Hussain) and, once a member, on the procedures to cease being a member, could not be obtained from the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) International Secretariat in Middlesex, United Kingdom.

Information on the requirements and procedures to become a member of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement (formerly the MQM–Haqiqis) and, once a member, on the procedures to cease being a member, could not be obtained from the Mohajir Quami Movement in London, United Kingdom. According to a 13 October 1997 Internet article from the Karachi-based newspaper The News International, the Mohajir Qaumi Movement led by chairman Afaq Ahmed had "opened up [a] London unit of the party" under organizer Nizam Ahmed. However, on 5 February 1998, international directory assistance was unable to find a listing for the MQM in London.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
