A professor of African politics at the University of Texas in Houston states that the Nigerian authorities will not be searching today for those involved in the October 1991 Kano riots (26 Oct. 1993). The source notes that, compared to other riots, the Kano riots were not serious enough to warrant the indefinite pre-occupation of the authorities.

The participants in the riots were not attempting to overthrow the federal government which, in the political climate of Nigeria under Ibrahim Babangida, would have made their case important enough to guarantee a constant search for them by the government (Ibid.).
