The population of the city of Kano in Nigeria is estimated at 699,900 according to Quid 1996 (1995, 1267). According to the dictionary of proper names Le Petit Robert : Dictionnaire illustré des noms propres, the city of Kano is predominently Muslim (1994, 1107).
