The attached San Francisco Chronicle article states that the average annual wage in Punjab is 24,000 rupees (approximately CDN $800) (9 Nov. 1992).

Sources consulted by the DIRB do not provide information on the average wage for non-skilled workers or shopkeepers, nor do they provide information on wages paid by Akali Dal to its employees.
