IRB – Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (Author)
The most recent information currently
available to the IRBDC comes from Mr. Adams of the Jehovah's
Witnesses World Headquarters in Brooklyn, New York. According to
statements made by Mr. Adams by telephone on 13 March 1990, the
Ghanaian government has "frozen" the Jehovah's Witnesses' church,
banning the use of its `kingdom halls', church buildings and
offices. However, on Mr. Adams understanding, followers of the
religion continue their practice in private gatherings. Although
Mr. Adams stated that the World Headquarters has not received
reports of personal abuse or violence against Jehovah's Witnesses,
he does not discard the possibility of sanctions against those who
disregard the abovementioned ban.
Please find attached a copy of the response
to information request GHA4272 which deals with the subject and
includes attachments providing more information on government
measures against the Jehovah's Witnesses' Church.
