Published information on the above subject
is currently unavailable to the IRBDC in Ottawa.
According to a representative of the
Embassy of Togo in Ottawa, because both Ghana and Togo are members
of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), a
Ghanaian national will be allowed to stay in Togo without a visa
for a period of 90 days (3 Feb. 1992). The Ghanaian national,
however, will have to provide an identification document, usually a
passport (Ibid.). If this person goes back to Ghana and then
comes back to Togo, he or she will be allowed to stay for another
period of 90 days (Ibid.). After the end of the 90-day
period, the person will have to report to the
"Sécurité Nationale" (Ministry of the Interior),
request a resident visa, and provide reasons why he or she desires
to remain in Togo (Ibid.).
According to the Embassy of Ghana in
Washington, there is no need for a visa when a Ghanaian national
travels to Togo since both countries are members of ECOWAS (3 Feb.
1992). This information is confirmed by a representative of the
Organization of African Unity (OAU) in New York (3 Feb. 1992).
