Information on the treatment of Palestinians before and after the Gulf war, and whether there have been changes in the re-issuing of residence permits since the Gulf War [EGY14773]

For information on the treatment of Palestinians in Egypt before the Gulf War, please refer to the attachment from Palestinians in the Arab World. Regarding the treatment of Palestinians after the Gulf War, Amnesty International Report 1992 states that thousands of people were arrested when Iraq invaded Kuwait, and targeted for arrest among other groups were Palestinians (1991, 106). On the matter of post-Gulf War treatment of Palestinians in Egypt, and whether there have been changes in the re-issue of residence permits, the DIRB is still waiting to hear from its sources and it will inform you as soon as it hears from them. For further information on the Egyptian government's handling of dissent during the Gulf War, please refer to the attachment from Human Rights Watch World Report 1992.

Additional and/or corroborative information on the requested subject is currently unavailable to the DIRB in Ottawa.
