The Charismatic Catholic Church (Iglesia Católica Carismática) and treatment of its members by authorities [ARG32383.E]

Information on a facility or institution called Iglesia Católica Carismática (Charismatic Catholic Church) could not be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate within time constraints.

However, references to groups called Renovación Carismática Católica (Catholic Charismatic Renewal) operating from parishes in Argentina were found in some documents (CEAR 1999; Iglesia.org 18 June 1999; Renovación Carismática Católica 28 Dec. 1997). One report by the Latin American Agencia Católica de Informaciones (ACI) in Peru describes the Renovación Carismática Católica as the generic name of a movement that harbours a number of associations worldwide (21 June 1999). In Argentina, the Fraternidad de Comunidades de Alianza (Fraternity of Alliance Communities) is reportedly the organization that groups Catholic followers of the "charismatic stream" (vertiente carismática) (La Nación 11 Oct. 1998). The Fraternidad is a dependency of the Consejo Pontificio para el Apostolado de los Laicos (Pontificial Council for the Apostolate of Lay Persons) based in Buenos Aires (ibid.). No references to particular treatment of its members or followers by authorities could be found among the sources consulted.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
