A newspaper called "Shkumbini" (January 1997 - January 1998) [ALB31948.E]

A 4 June 1999 letter sent to the Research Directorate by the executive director of the Albanian Human Rights Group (AHRG) in Tirana states that there is a newspaper in Elbasan, Albania, called "Shkumbini," which is "an old local newspaper, from the years 1970 - 1980."

The June - September 1997 AHRG Bulletin Nr. 1, Albanian Journalism in the Face of Violence, states that the AHRG was founded in 1996 as a nonprofit, nonsectarian, nongovernmental organization, works for the protection of human rights, engages in human rights education, promotes freedom of expression, and is funded by various donors within and outside of Albania.

No additional information on a newspaper in Albania called "Shkumbini" could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
