Document #1310144
IRB – Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (Author)
No mention of the Ughamiri sect could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
However, several references were found to the lake goddess or spirit called Uhamiri, a character found in the novel entitled Efuru by the Nigerian writer Flora Nwapa (FMC n.d.; Pegasos n.d.; Seminar June 2000; UGA n.d.; WMU n.d.). Uhamiri contains the root word mmiri which means water in Igbo (FMC n.d.). Additional documentary references to Uhamiri could not be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
