Turkish Warplanes Strike Suspected PKK Targets In Northern Iraq

Turkey's military says warplanes have bombed suspected Kurdish rebel targets in northern Iraq.
 
The military said the jets targeted caves and other hideouts in Iraq's Zap and Hakurk regions, near the border with Turkey, on February 11.
 
The statement said all planes returned to base safely but did not provide any details about damage or casualties.
 
Fighting between Turkish forces and rebels from the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) has escalated in recent months.
 
The PKK rebels, some of them based in northern Iraq, have been fighting for autonomy in Turkey's largely Kurdish southeast since 1984 in a conflict that has claimed about 45,000 lives.
