Casualties Reported In Clashes Between Rival Egyptian Protesters
July 23, 2013
Egypt's health officials say at least nine people have been killed in overnight clashes between supporters and opponents of the country's ousted president, Muhammad Morsi.
Three people were killed on the night of July 22 in Cairo and two other towns, while at least six people died in clashes near the main campus of Cairo University
Morsi's supporters have been staging sit-in protests demanding his reinstatement.
Morsi was ousted by the military on July 3 following countrywide protests against his rule.
Morsi's family said on July 22 that it would take legal action against the army, which has held the deposed president at an undisclosed military facility since his ouster.
The army says he is being held for his own safety.
