In addition, in November 1993 the
international affairs department of B'Nai B'rith's Washington
office reported on the general situation of Jews in Moldova and the
Caucasus region. Within the context of armed conflicts and
separatist movements in those countries, B'Nai B'rith commented
that "the chief danger for Jews is getting caught in the crossfire,
and conceivably - given historical proclivities - being scapegoated
by one side or another if it fails to achieve its objectives" (Nov.
1993, 6).
This response was prepared after
researching publicly accessible information currently available to
the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does
not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular
claim to refugee status or asylum.
