No information on divisions within the Congolese Liberation Movement (Mouvement de libération du Congo, MLC) could be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate within the time constraints for this Response. However, without providing details, Africa Confidential stated, on 5 November 2004, that some "[d]iplomats regard [Congolese] National Assembly President Olivier Kamitatu (number two in the MLC behind [Jean-Pierre] Bemba), as sophisticated and politically astute and [that they] have tried to persuade him to break with Bemba" (4).
