Information on Enrique Borgo Bustamante, vice-president of ARENA and El Salvador, and on his position in TACA airlines [SLV18558.E]

Biographical information on Enrique Borgo Bustamante could not be found among the sources currently available to the DIRB. However, some of the attached documents make reference to Borgo Bustamante in their reports on the most recent electoral campaign (please note that most reports available at the DIRB profiling the candidates of this election focused on the presidential and not the vice-presidential candidates of each party).

Other attachments refer to the organization of the ruling Nationalist Republica Alliance (ARENA). One of these reports names the new members of the reorganized National Executive Council (COENA) of ARENA (El Diario de Hoy 27 Sept. 1993), while others list the leaders of the party (see, for example, South America, Central America and the Caribbean 1993 and Political Handbook of the World: 1992). None of these documents refers to Borgo Bustamante or to a party vice-president. Finally, one attachment lists Enrique Borgo Bustamante as the president of Central American Air Transports (TACA) international airlines, but provides no details on his role and responsibilities (South America, Central America and the Caribbean 1993 1993, 311). As stated in Response to Information Request SLV6650 of 8 August 1990, TACA is currently a privately owned airline of El Salvador.

This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
