Afghan Students Killed In School Attack

January 11, 2016

At least three Afghan children have been killed after a mortar bomb hit a school in eastern Afghanistan.

The Afghan Education Ministry said in a statement on January 11 that the attack in Khost Province also wounded eight students at the secondary school.

There was no claim of responsibility for the attack.

Khost, on the border with Pakistan, has been relatively calm in recent months but last year dozens of people were killed in two suicide bomb attacks in April and July.

The attack came as officials from Afghanistan, Pakistan, China, and the United States met in Islamabad in a bid to restart a peace process aimed at ending the 15-year war.
