Russian news agencies say six suspected militants have been killed in a security operation in the North Caucasus region of Daghestan.
Daghestan Interior Ministry officials said that they believe three suspects were killed on February 25 and three more early on February 26 near the villages of Nechayevka and Sultan-Yangyurt in central Kizilyurt district.
The operation launched on February 25 continued into the following day.
Officials said four other suspected militants might remain in a forest in the area.
Daghestan is beset by violence linked to an Islamist insurgency rooted in two post-Soviet separatist wars in neighboring Chechnya as well as organized crime, business turf wars, political disputes, and clan rivalry.
Violence persists across Russia's North Caucasus despite the Kremlin's efforts to restore stability after the Chechen wars.
Police and officials are regularly targeted in attacks.
