Reports: Suicide Attack Kills Police Officer In Northern Afghanistan

December 23, 2010

The chief of police in the northern Afghanistan province of Kunduz is quoted as saying a suicide bomber has attacked a police checkpoint, killing at least one officer and wounding up to five other people.

Abdul Rahman Sayedkhaili is quoted by The Associated Press as saying the bomber struck around 0800 this morning in downtown Kunduz, setting off his explosives as police stopped him at a checkpoint to see where he was going.

The report says the incident follows a December 19 attack claimed by the Taliban in which insurgents stormed an army recruitment center in Kunduz in a suicide attack that left four Afghan army soldiers and four police dead.
