Deadly Suicide Bomb Attack Near Kabul

 July 12, 2013

A suicide bomber has targeted a police checkpoint on the outskirts of Afghanistan's capital, Kabul.

Police said on July 12 that the bombing killed one person and injured two more.

Kabul police chief, Mohammad Ayoub Salangi told the AFP news agency that the bomber was in a vehicle and ran away as the police approached to search him and then detonated his explosive-laden suicide vest.

Police said that the attack happened in Mir Bacha Kot district on Kabul's outskirts.

Nobody claimed responsibility for the attack but on July 5 the Taliban vowed to escalate their attacks during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

The insurgents have intensified their assaults on Afghan forces since they assumed responsibility for national security last month.
