Whether individuals born in India to parents who are foreign diplomats are citizens of India; if so, whether these individuals enjoy the same rights and privileges as ordinary Indian citizens [IND42488.E]

In correspondence to the Research Directorate, the High Commission of India, in Ottawa, indicated that "[i]ndividuals born in India to parents who are foreign diplomats do not get Indian citizenship by virtue of their birth in India" (5 May 2004).

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim for refugee protection.
