Document #1349929
IRB – Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (Author)
Documentation indicates that criminal law
was used in the Soviet Union to suppress dissident political
opinions and, further, that it was common for people who expressed
politically dissident views to be convicted on fabricated charges
(Amnesty International 1980, 56-57; Country Reports 1986
1987, 1057; Feldbridge 1985, 28; Lubarsky 1985, 38-39; Stone 1985,
172). Jews were reportedly among the convicted prisoners of
conscience (Amnesty International 1980, 56-60; Country Reports
1986 1987, 1057; Lubarsky 1985, 41; Stone 1985, 172). Please
find attached excerpts from the documentation on this topic.
