The murder of Battalion 3-16 member Juan Constantino García in San Pedro Sula in 1985 [HND29087.E]

The murder of Constantino García was reported in two Committee for the Defense of Human Rights in Honduras (CODEH) annual reports (1987, 8; 1988, 13) and a 1 November 1988 Washington Post article. In The Washington Post, Sergeant Fausto Reyes Caballero, a 19-year old veteran of the Honduran security forces, reported that a Battalion 3-16 motorcycle team under the authority of Sergeant Jaime Rosales killed former sergeant García in October 1985 after he had left the unit (1 Nov. 1988). The article also reported that several months following García's murder, his brother, a former corporal, was killed after publicly accusing the Battalion 3-16 of the death of his brother.

Additional information on the case of Juan Constantino García could not be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
