Information on the CONDOR group is limited
among the sources consulted by the DIRB. A 9 June 1993 IPS report
states that a group of Chilean, Argentine and Uruguayan army
officers called the Red Condor Group were involved in smuggling a
Chilean former agent of General Pinochet out of the country. The
same report states that the Red Condor Group was still engaging in
clandestine activities in 1993 (ibid.). An 8 February 1996
Latin America Weekly Report article adds that the former
Pinochet agent was expected to testify to the authorities about his
activities with Chile's secret police, DINA, when the "Condor
network" facilitated his clandestine cross-border escape. Please
consult the two attached articles for additional information on
Condor's involvement with the former Chilean agent.
Information on a clandestine group called
RETEN could not be found among the sources consulted by the
DIRB.
This Response was prepared after
researching publicly accessible information currently available to
the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does
not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular
claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of
additional sources consulted in researching this Information
Request.
