Update to LKA19844.E of 8 March 1995 on the commission into political assassinations created by the Kumaratunga government, including its members [LKA20635.E]

According to a 24 April 1995 letter faxed to the DIRB by the Colombo-based Information Monitor, "the current government has appointed only one Special Presidential Commission to inquire into the assassination of Vijaya Kumaratunga". Information Monitor also states in the same letter that "members of the Commission are Sarath N. de Silva (Justice of the Court of Appeal), P. Ramanathan (Supreme Court judge, President of the Commission), and D. Jayawickrema (High Court judge)".

This response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
