Update to Response to Information Request CHN9995 of 24 December 1991, on the treatment of police officers who were suspected of supporting pro-democracy movement students [CHN14967]
The attached Associated Press report provides information on the
flight of a Chinese police officer who spent six months in prison
for his alleged role in the escape of "pro-democracy activists" to
Hong Kong (21 July 1992). While not directly referring to police
officers accused of supporting the pro-democracy movement, the
attached Agence France Press article, which provides information on
a possible change in Government of China policy toward officers
accused of supporting the pro-democracy movement, might be
useful.
Additional information on the above subject is currently
unavailable to the DIRB.
