1) Current information on whether the Naxalites are active in the state of Kerala; 2) Information on the relationship between the Naxalites and landowners [IND11686]

A representative of the High Commission of India in Ottawa provided the following information on the above subjects during a telephone interview on 14 September 1992.

The Naxalites are the members of an armed "extreme leftist group" (the Naxalite) which advocates violence; the Naxalite is an illegal group. As a Marxist group, the Naxalite is against landowners. This group is active in a number of Indian states including the states of Andhra Pradesh, Tripura and West Bengal. The above-mentioned group is no longer active in the State of Kerala; the government of India has brought the situation "under control."

Attached please find an article on the political views and objectives of the Naxalite.

Additional and/or corroborating information on the above subject is currently unavailable to the IRBDC.
