For information regarding the procedures
for passport issuance followed by the High Commission of Bangladesh
in Ottawa, please consult the attached 18 March 1996 circular that
was faxed by the First Secretary of the Bangladesh High Commission
on 16 September 1998. In a follow-up telephone interview that same
day, the First Secretary stated that this circular is still in
effect at the present time and is a "standing order" for the High
Commission with regard to passport issuance. The High Commission
did not provide additional information on security checks.
This Response was prepared after
researching publicly accessible information currently available to
the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is
not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any
particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
