Information on the Khalistan Liberation Movement and the death of a prominent member called Jagroop or Jagrup Singh in late-June 1991 [IND12211]

Information on a group called Khalistan Liberation Movement could not be found among the sources currently available to the DIRB. However, numerous references to a Khalistan Liberation Force and a Khalistan Liberation Army were found. These are reported to be two of many armed Sikh groups that resort to violence ostensibly to establish a separate Sikh state. It is not clear whether the group on which information is requested is the same as, belongs to or is linked to either of the two above-named armed organizations. Please find attached three documents that provide general information on Sikh armed groups, which add to the information already available through your Regional Documentation Centre.

Please find attached copies of the most detailed reports on confrontations between security forces and Sikh militant groups in or around late-June 1991. The only "hardcore militant" named in the attached reports is a Jaspal Singh, reportedly known also under the alias "Jassa," who was killed in an encounter in Faridkot district (All India Radio Network 7 July 1991).

Additional and/or corroborating information could not be found among the available sources.
