Document #1304796
IRB – Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (Author)
According to a spokesperson for the High
Commission of India in Ottawa, in order to obtain a passport an
Indian citizen has to fill out a passport application form
available at the Regional Passport Office (RPO) located in the
various state capitals (6 Jan. 1992). The passport application form
must be returned to the RPO with three passport-sized pictures
previously attested by an officer of the government, a lawyer or a
registered doctor (Ibid.). On the request of the RPO the
police department proceeds to verify the applicant's past history,
address and photographs; upon acceptance a passport is issued
(Ibid.). The passport fees are about 50 rupees
(Ibid.).
Additional and/or corroborating information
on the subject could not be found among the sources currently
available to the IRBDC in Ottawa.
