Whether an Albanian citizen who is an ethnic Greek and who has a grandparent with Greek citizenship, is entitled to Greek citizenship; procedures, documents, and timeframes for applying for citizenship [GRC30208.E]

The following information is in addition to that contained within GRC17962.E of 7 November 1994 and GRC19120.E. of 24 November 1994 and Country Reports 1997. Further information on Greek nationality can be found on REFWORLD. The Consulate General of Greece at New York, N.Y. indicates that individuals of Greek descent must submit the following original documents when applying for Greek citizenship: Birth Certificate; Certificate of Baptism; Marriage Certificate; Current Passport; Father's Birth Certificate; and, Parents' marriage certificate from church and marriage registration certificate from the city. This source also indicates that, if the father was not registered in Greece, there is a need to also submit the grandfather's certificate of registration from the municipal records of the city/town where he was registered as well as the grandparents' marriage certificate (n.d.).
