According to various sources, the practice of internal exile has been legally abolished in Bulgaria. The Eastern Europe section of the U.S. Department of State, however, indicates that given the current situation in Bulgaria and the means available to the U.S. Department of State the possibility of an illegal, unreported case of a person currently in internal exile cannot be excluded.
