While Xinhua News Agency and The East African reported that official celebrations to mark the 35th anniversary of Zanzibar's revolution, 12 January 1999, included a public rally at a stadium on Pemba Island (12 Jan. 1999), information on a rally or rallies held by the Civic United Front (CUF) on 12 January 1999 could not be found among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
