In a 9 October 1997 letter sent to the Research Directorate, the secretary general of the Salvadorean Social Security Institute (Instituto Salvadoreño del Seguro Social - ISSS) in San Salvador stated that ISSS legal opinon was such that the names of ISSS doctors could not be provided because their names are not registered in a public archive (archivo público).

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
