Document #1217431
IRB – Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (Author)
An official of the Lebanese embassy in
Ottawa stated that Lebanese law stipulates that a person is
considered to be Lebanese if he/she was born of a Lebanese father
(25 July 1995). Thus, a person who was born of a Lebanese father
outside Lebanon in the 1950s is considered to be Lebanese (25 July
1995). He/she is required to apply to the Lebanese embassy of his
place of birth to obtain Lebanese citizenship (ibid.). The official
added that the applicant is required to prove the Lebanese
citizenship of his/her father and to produce his/her birth
certificate.
The official stipulated that the above
information is only based on his knowledge, and is not an official
legal view on the subject.
This Response was prepared after
researching publicly accessible information currently available to
the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does
not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular
claim to refugee status or asylum.
