Information on whether there are restrictions on driver's licences that would lead to the sentence "3. The holder of this document should be age 23..." being printed on the back of a driver's license [IRN22274.E]

The following information was provided during a 9 November 1995 interview with the first secretary and head of the consular Section at the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Ottawa.

According to the source recollection, the sentence "3. The holder of this document should be age 23..." is printed on the back of the Payé Eyck driver's licence. The Payé Eyck is the official permit to drive a truck, a bus or heavy machineries.

There are two types of driver's licences in Iran: the class G licence (number 2), and the Payé Eyck (number 1). In order to obtain a Payé Eyck, a person must pass specialized exams.

For additional information on the class G driver's licence, please consult Response to Information Request IRN22275.E of 3 January 1996. Information on the Payé Eyck driver's licence is available in Response to Information Request IRN22276.E of 3 January 1996.

This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the DIRB within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum.
