Information on the procedure for obtaining a new residence identification card (I.D.) in the case of loss [CHN9947]
A representative of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China
in Ottawa refused to provide any information on the above-mentioned
subject (3 Jan. 1992).
A lawyer in New York, trained in the People's Republic of China,
states that the
hukou (residence I.D. card) is issued by the
police department of every region (23 Dec. 1991). In case of loss,
people have to report the loss of their
hukous to local
police authorities in order to be issued new cards (
Ibid.).
A representative of the Chinese Community Centre in Ottawa
maintains that a person who has lost his/her residence I.D. card
has to apply to the Public Security Bureau (police) for a
replacement card (2 Jan. 1992).
Attached please find Response to Information Request No. CHN9220
on the
hukou.
Additional and/or corroborating information on the subject is
currently unavailable to the IRBDC.
