Very few references could be found to the Islami Inqilab Party/Islamic Revolutionary Party (IIP) among the sources consulted by the Research Directorate.
According to information contained in the encyclopaedia Political Parties of Asia and the Pacific, retired Major-General Tajmul Hussain Malik announced the Party's formation in Lahore on 17 August 1979 (1985). The encylopaedia further states that "the party promised to fight to reintroduce true Islamic values and to revive Islamic rule in Pakistan" (ibid.).
A 29 September 2001 op-ed written by a Islamabad-based freelance columnist reported that Islami Inqilab Party, along with several other parties such as the Islamic Public Party, Tehreek-e-Islam, and Islami Siasi Tehreek, was unable to gain a single parliament seat in the 1997 elections (The News International).
This Response was prepared after researching publicly accessible information currently available to the Research Directorate within time constraints. This Response is not, and does not purport to be, conclusive as to the merit of any particular claim to refugee status or asylum. Please find below the list of additional sources consulted in researching this Information Request.
